Ever wonder why MBLU is 4 days long?

A lot of signings are only 1 day or a few hours but MBLU is a 4 day convention. Are you wondering why? It’s simple! LOTS of fun with your favorite authors and readers. Instead of just going to the author’s table and getting your books signed and a picture you get to actually hang out with the authors during panels where they talk about their books, writing, and other book related subjects, during games that are played that they are hosting, parties, dancing, costume parties, release parties, and more! MBLU’s attending authors are excited to get a chance to get to know your better as a person. We still have a HUGE book signing with all the authors and we’re also organizing a cover model ally where you can hang out, meet, and get pictures taken with some of the industries best cover models. Everyone who joins us at MBLU is bound to have an amazing time! Sign up today!!!

Update on Robert and Jamie, our 2015 Pets for Vets match

We just received a very beautiful email from Robert. He wanted to say thank you to everyone involved in the fundraiser that helped him get Jamie. He also wanted to let us know that Jamie is officially spoiled and is the perfect addition to their family. She even gets along with the other family furbabies which include a cat and 3 ferrets. Both her and Robert and happy and doing well.

Here is a picture of Jamie now.

We will continue to keep you updated on his and Jamie’s progress.

Pets for Vets: The story of Robert and Jamie

MBLU proudly presents to you, Robert and Jamie, our 2015 sponsored pet/vet match provided in whole by the authors and readers of MBLU2015. Thank you so much to all of you for your generosity and kindness and a special thank you to author Sloan Johnson for being a representative of MBLU to witness this match and bring us their story.

When we load up our bags and head to a book signing, we don’t often think about anything beyond getting through the weekend. Whether attending as a reader or an author, it’s all about getting together and having a good time. But MBLU was about so much more than that.

At some point last summer, there was the opportunity for authors to chime in on what charity we should raise money for. The winner was one I’d never heard of: Pets for Vets. Now, it’s a group I wish was in every area of the country because I’ve seen first hand how much good they do.

When I found out the Pets for Vets chapter we were helping was in Madison, I offered to do anything needed down here since it’s my hometown. Leagh sent me a message the week before Christmas, telling me she had the match day. Luckily, I only had a few days to wait before I got to see firsthand what our group had done.

I’m going to put myself out there now, because I think it’s important for everyone to know. When I talked to the coordinator from the local chapter, she told me there were certain things Robert, the vet, didn’t want to talk about, including his injuries. That statement helped form the misconception already in my mind.

When I walked down the stairs of the VFW, I was met by three people getting the room ready for the match ceremony. I assumed we were still waiting on Robert to arrive. Nope. He was crouched behind the table trying to attach a banner to nothing.

“This is our vet,” the coordinator told me as she made introductions. I looked him over and realized just how wrong I was. I’d assumed he’d be young (a recently disabled vet) and that his injuries would be significant. Honestly, he looked a lot like anyone his age might.

“Don’t tell anyone,” he said as he shook my hand.

“That you had to set up your own party?” I asked, confused by his statement.

“No, that I’m a vet,” he responded with a laugh. I didn’t ask if he was joking, because I’m pretty sure he was.

Even now, I don’t know what his injuries are, how he was injured, or even when he served. Why? Because once I was in that basement, none of that mattered. The people who needed to know do know.

Robert was giddy with anticipation. We’re talking kid on Christmas morning excited. He sat at the front of the room with his eyes closed while they brought Jamie into the room. And when he opened his eyes… the love at first sight seriously made my eyes water.

There were a ton of pictures taken as Randy, the trainer, talked to Robert about his new companion. Jamie couldn’t have cared less about anything that was going on; she was too busy exploring the bags of toys and treats.

There was very little fanfare. There were only a handful of us in the basement. The entire event took less than an hour, because Randy had to follow Robert home so he could help get Jamie settled in there.

As we walked up the stairs, Robert asked me to thank everyone from MBLU and let you know how much it means to him that we raised the money so he can have a companion dog. Most of you will never know Robert as anything more than a picture, but I can guarantee, every single author, blogger, reader, and volunteer has a very special place in his heart because he’ll think of you when he’s playing with Jamie. This is why I love MBLU. Because it’s something more. Because it’s about giving something back.

Thank you again to everyone who helped make this happen for Robert and Jamie. You not only made this Vet's quality of life better but you also rescued Jamie from a shelter and gave her a home where she will be loved and needed. THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts.

MBLU 2016 is gearing up for another successful conference where we will be raising money for another pet/vet match. If you are interested in donating to this amazing cause but are unable to attend the conference in 2016, please contact Leagh at
